Source: Logistics Industry Brief As post-Canton Fair cargo flows surge this October, carriers and freight forwarders report mixed conditions for air and ocean shipments bound for Saudi Arabia’s key gateways, Jeddah Islamic Port, Dammam, JED and RUH airports.
On the sea freight front, spot rates have eased moderately month-on-month, yet Red Sea security risks remain the dominant concern. Some shipping lines retain contingency rerouting plans, which may extend transit lead times by roughly one week. Port congestion at Jeddah stays at a manageable level, but Saudi customs enforcement via the SABER system remains rigorous. Incomplete or mismatched paperwork frequently triggers inspection, detention and extra storage charges.
For air freight, available capacity out of major Chinese hubs is tight amid strong demand for high-value pharmaceutical and chemical raw materials. Airfreight quotes dipped slightly compared with September, though premium space sells out quickly. Occasional flight adjustments and ground handling delays are still observed.
Logistics advisors recommend early booking: 2–3 weeks in advance for sea containers and urgent reservation for time-sensitive air cargo. Shippers are reminded to validate all SABER certificates and HS coding before departure to avoid clearance hold-ups.
