Gentamicin

Active against a wide range of bacterial infections, mostly Gram-negative bacteria including Pseudomonas, Proteus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter aerogenes, Serratia, and the Gram-positive Staphylococcus. 
Gentamicin, sold under brand names Garamycin among others, is an antibiotic used to treat several types of bacterial infections. This may includebone infections, endocarditis, pelvic inflammatory disease, meningitis, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, and sepsis among others.

An important member of the Aminoglycoside Antibiotic,it is widespread used in the treatment of diseases caused by pseudomonas aeruginosa , proteus,Bacillus Coli, Klebsiella, Serratia and staphylococcus, e.g. pyemia of newborn baby, septicemia, infections of central nervous system, urethra, respiratory tract, alimentary infection, skin, bone and soft tissue.Gentamicin is used in the treatment of respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, blood, bone and soft tissues infections of these susceptible bacteria.

Gentamicin has antibacterial effect on Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, aerogenic bacteria, Klebsiella, Proteus mirabilis, some Proteus indoleans, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, some Neisseria, some non pigmented Serratia and Shigella. Among Gram-positive bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus (including β - lactamase producing strains) is sensitive to this product; Streptococcus (including Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus faecalis, etc.) are resistant to this product. Anaerobes (Bacteroides), Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Rickettsia, fungi and viruses are also resistant to the drug. In recent years, due to the extensive application of this product, the number of drug-resistant strains has increased gradually, and the drug resistance rate of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella, Serratia and Proteus indodoxine positive strains is very high. Gentamicin is mainly used for systemic or local infection caused by gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Shigella dysentery, Klebsiella pneumoniae, proteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc.

Gentamicin Sulfate, a watersoluble antibiotic of the aminoglycoside group, is derived by the growth of Micromonospora purpurea, an actinomycete.Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic composed of a mixture of related gentamicin components and fractions and is used to treat many types of bacterial infections, particularly those caused by Gram-negative organisms.Gentamicin is also ototoxic and nephrotoxic, with this toxicity remaining a major problem in clinical use.
